Workstream 3: Inspiring Research Culture
Lead: Anvesha Singh and John Schwabe, Research Culture Officer: Aaron Andrews
Workstream 3 addresses issues of disengagement and lack of belonging as evidenced by low participation in research culture activities and feedback from staff. We believe this disengagement is linked to insufficient recognition of the value and impact of self-development opportunities. Additionally, we recognise that traditional funding models may not always be equitable or inclusive.
Our goal is to raise awareness and drive greater engagement with workshops and other activities, encouraging discussions about research culture within departments, and testing alternative, more equitable funding models for new initiatives.
Workstream Outline:

PDD Pilot Study: We are piloting additional questions about research culture in annual Performance Development Discussions (PDDs) to encourage engagement within departments.

Funding Scheme: We will be announcing a series of funding calls so that researchers across the University can pilot initiatives to address barriers to inclusion within their own departments or research groups.

Public engagement: We are organising research culture takeover events, workshops, seminars, lectures and other activities to find out about colleagues’ lived experiences of research culture and generate discussion about positive changes we can all make.
